Last night, Shon rode with us to New Harmony to work on the garden. Trisha and the boys didn't go, because Quinn has a baseball practice, and someone had to take him and go get him. We met Kenyon and Kara and Mataya there. They were visiting with my brother Brent when we got there. Then he went to see if he could find the water so we could water our garden, but he couldn't find it. He brought his horse, Shorty, back for Mataya to see. She was thrilled and she doesn't seem scared at all to be around him. Well, while were all there, in and around the garden, all of a sudden a big commotion started up at the bottom of the garden and Brent's dogs had rousted out two deer who were laying in the grass there. One headed between Grandpa's old house and Dad's house and one went out by the barnyard. I thought it scared them so bad they probably wouldn't be back, but I saw Brent today and he told me his dogs had got them out of there twice already today. He thinks we should shoot them. (I'm sure he is kidding). What do you, my readers think we should do? We have had the leaves eaten off of 8 of our tomato plants and I'm sure it is the deer. Anyway, the corn is coming up and everything looks good except for the tomatoes. We roasted a hot dog and Kara brought watermelon and key lime bars (yum, yum) and I made a pasta salad and Shon brought some chips. Elma Lynne came and visited for a while with us and when Brent and Vernile got back from a horse ride, they came. It was a fun night.

That was a fun night, and DANG those deer!! Maybe we should let your dad be in charge of them. HAHA. Can't wait for more fun nights down there with you guys.

Sounds like an exciting evening. You might want to ask Ted for some tips on keeping the deer out of the garden. (well, his might be to shoot them too). That picture of Mataya in front of the chicken coop is one of the best pictures I have ever seen. I had tears in my eyes. She is so beautiful. You guys make gardening look fun.
PS...the picture of Kenyon watering almost looks X rated. Ha ha!
Claudine, you may have to get a deer fence. I know my folks finally did, because nothing else works, not dogs or guns, and especially not if the game warden lives within hearing distance. ha!!

What a fun evening. It was fun to bring Shorty to visit Mataya. The dogs scaring the deer out were a New Harmony feature that is good and bad at the same time. It was fun to see you and your family. Claudine, you will probably have to do what we ended up doing--no we didn't do the kill the darn things routine--we put up a fence. It has worked wonders. I am not sure if they still do it, but when we moved here, the fish and game gave us the fencing to put up for our orchard.
