CEDAR CITY LIVESTOCK HERITAGE FESTIVAL

This past week end was the Cedar Livestock Festival. On Friday night, John and I went to the Heritage Theatre to the Michael Martin Murphey Concert. It was great! He stood on stage for over two hours singing and telling stories of cowboys and the old west. He got a standing ovation at the end of the concert. We met up with some old friends, Kent and Camille Larsen, from Manti, who were there with some friends from New Harmony and had a good visit with them. On Saturday morning, we went to the "Sheep Parade" on main street at ten o'clock. It was great! It had lots of sheep wagons, old and new, cattle trucks of all sizes, farm machinery and at the end was a big heard of sheep. In the middle of the parade was a bagpipe band from the college. I thought it fit well with the theme. John mentioned later that it was a quiet parade. No loud fire engines or police cars with sirens, no dancing groups with loud music. Tom and Warren Williams (long time sheep and cattlemen from Cedar) were the Grand Marshals. Another good thing about the parade was that they had two riderless horses on the back of sheep wagons, honoring and in memory of Eddie Larson and Chet Smith. They were both sheep men who have died recently. It was very touching. It is by far, my favorite parade of the year. Can't wait until next year. If you didn't make it, try next year, because it is worth your time.

Then after we went and had our flu shots out to the hospital, we went out to the rodeo grounds to the tractor pulls. This was something new to us. We didn't know what to expect, but it was fun. We wandered through the arena and got us a pulled pork sandwich and a cookie and chips and looked at some of the booths. We visited with some friends and then headed over to the beachers to watch the pulls. We sat there for over five hours, watching the tractors and visiting with people. It was a beautiful day. Shon and Trish and their boys went with us and they left about halfway through it, but we hung in to the end. Great entertainment and lots of fun. Our friend, LeRoy Coleman was in the pulls, so we did know someone who was in it. We met up with Lowell and Sharon and Talonnie, but somewhere along the line, they left us. Oh, Talonnie got stopped visiting with Becky Sue and we never did see Lowell and Sharon at the tractor pulls.
